JD Salinger Passed away today. Has anyone read Catcher in the Rye? I have and can't figure out the connection crazy murdering people have to it! Just seems a little Duddy Kravitz to me!

Very interesting Miriam! I will look up WhatIsStephenHarperReading.com - I always like a book review that is engaging the reader to want to seek out a book!

I agree with you about Life of Pi - I admired it more than I liked it. I thought it was creative and very witty, but some parts were just too disturbing for me to really like overall. I think he's a great writer, but he also strikes me as a little full of himself. Have you seen his project WhatIsStephenHarperReading.com? The whole tone is VERY didactic and pretentious, but his insights into different novels are really beautiful. They're the kind of book reviews that make you want to really read the book.

A lot is being made of Yann Martel's next book "Beatrice & Virgil". The "Life of Pi" author has a lot to live up to. I read LoP and was not as amazed as many others were. I am always looking for insights on LoP or perhaps what can be anticipated from his new novel. So anyone chime in who "got" LoP or who really likes this author.
