CALGARY - Where the Wild West Meets A New World Print E-mail
Thursday, 21 May 2009 20:04

calgarydowntownOnce thought of as Cowtown, Calgary's cowboys, wranglers, and pioneers forged a trail for a bountiful city of present day mass development, growth and innovation. Even though this city known for the annual Stampede has a cowboy's laidback sensibilities, it also has the high-spirited rush of a bullfighter's edge to it. Whether you are taking in Calgary on its own or extending your visit to include the Rocky Mountain villages of Banff, Kananaskis, Lake Louise, or even the Badlands, you are sure to connect with a powerful force of nature. Niagara-On-The-Lake, the slightly less commercialized appendage from its sister ‘Falls,’ is a cornucopia for any traveller. A stunning garden-like town of boutique shops, historical buildings, waterfront gazebos, wineries and all that theatre, theatre, theatre! The weekend I descended on this Capra-esque community was the ‘home tour’ weekend. A buzz of community minded individuals were showcasing the history and grandeur of the town. Already bustling streets filled with tourists speaking in a plenitude of differing languages; this weekend seemed to be simply one highlight amongst a summer of Niagara-On-The-Lake’s splendour. In a world that chooses to play in the great indoors, riding elevators and taking turns in revolving doors of high-rises has become inescapable activities. The cement playgrounds in which we live, our city lives, have created thick clouds of pollution that have blinded many from seeing the importance of working to sustain a natural and healthy environment. However, buried in the heart of the Landes Forest on the edge of the Atlantic in Hossegor, France, The Natural Surf Lodge remains unaffected by this infectious haze.

VANCOUVER: A West Coast Paradise Print E-mail

Nestled in the southwest corner of Canada, Vancouver is blessed with a panoramic view of the ocean and the majestic Coast Mountains. Here one can spend the morning hiking along the local trails and the afternoon kite-boarding or sailing along the coast. If half of the world's cranes are in Dubai, its seems as if the other half must be in Vancouver as the city completes the finishing touches for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
