W.E. represents Madonna's second turn in the director's chair, but her first time as director being in the hot seat at a press conference at the Toronto International Film Festival. W.E., which tells dual tales of Wallis Simpson's love affair with King Edward VIII and a woman also named Wallis in modern Manhattan who's struggling with a love affair of her own, received it's North America premiere at the festival, and before the cameras at TIFF, Madonna, along with stars Andrea Riseborough and Abbie Cornish, talked about how King Edward VIII was"punk rock" and how the director created a safe envoironment for her actors to play in.
