It's not quite the Toronto International Film Festival without at least one Canadian movie about hockey. This year, one of the offerings was Goon, a comedy based on the novel Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey. Jay Baruchel not only stars in the film, but he co-wrote the screenplay with Evan Goldberg (Superbad). Directed by Michael Dowse (Fubar, Take Me Home Tonight), Baruchel is joined on the ice and on screen by Seann William Scott, Alison Pill, Liev Schreiber, Kim Coates, and Eugene Levy. On the red carpet for the film's world premiere at TIFF, Press+1 caught up with many of the film's cast and crew. Check out the view from the red carpet after the jump.

W.E., which tells dual tales of Wallis Simpson's love affair with King Edward VIII and a woman also named Wallis in modern Manhattan who's struggling with a love affair of her own, received it's North America premiere at the festival, and before the cameras at TIFF, Madonna, along with stars Andrea Riseborough and Abbie Cornish, talked about how King Edward VIII was"punk rock" and how the director created a safe envoironment for her actors to play in. Press+1 was at TIFF last fall, and had a front row seat at the press conference to get all the scoop. Click play after the jump.

David Cronenberg's films have often been accused of messing with the minds of the audience, but in the case of A Dangerous Method, he's messing with the minds of the original guys that made a living out of clinically messing with people's minds: Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud. In Method, Freud is played by Viggo Mortensen, and Jung is played by Michael Fassbender. The film chronicles not just the meeting of the two minds that invented psycho-analysis, but follows Jung as he embarks on an affair with patient Sabina Spielrein played by Keira Knightly.
There's a lot of pre-release buzz for Method, some of it coming from the Awards season rush; Mortensen has received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor, for instance. All that buzz though started last fall at the Toronto International Film Festival, where the film received its Canadian premiere. A Dangerous Method will be in theatres on Friday, January 13th, but in the meantime, you can hear from the cast and crew courtesy of the Press+1 seat at TIFF. Click play on the video after the jump.

Hockey. It's as Canadian as the beaver and the maple leaf. The recently released Canadian movie Breakaway proved that the passion for the game extends to new Canadians just as easily as anyone else in our country, which is probably why the film received a prestige spot making its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. During the press conference, the film's stars including Vinay Virmani, Russell Peters, Rob Lowe, and Akshay Kumar, talked about how the culture clash was no clash, and how a story about Indian-Canadians playing hickey lent itself so easy to comedy. Hit play on the video, after the jump.

One of the themes of the Canadian film program at this year's Toronto International Film Festival was new Canadian stories, films from the perspective of filmmakers that may not have been born in Canada, but have come to make our country home, and perhaps offer a unique perspective of it. Raha Shirazi falls into that category. Born in Tehran, but raised in Canada, her latest film is a celebration of tradition, and follows a young woman silently walks alone to retrieve water from a natural source. In the simple eight minute film, Shirazi captures her story in a very visual sense, and reveals the role that ritual and vigil play in negotiating grief. Press+1 got the chance to interview Shirazi while she was at TIFF.
