In the midst of all the fear during this flu season laughter proves not only to be the best medicine but the best way to rid the mind of all the fear that's being promoted. When some of the best comedians come together under one roof it's hard to imagine a night that can be filled with anything else besides a good time. The 2009 Just for Laughs brought by Capital One hosted by Sugar Sammy is bringing the best of Just for Laughs across the country with comedians from Canada, America and Scotland. Being a huge fan of the Just for Laughs Festivals, I had no other choice but to attend and despite my favourite comedian, Tommy Tiernan, not being part of the tour anymore the show was a success.

Kicking the night off host Sugar Sammy gets the crowd warmed up and the laugher begins to roll from the audience. Performing an opening skit that is easily relatable for Calgarians proves that knowing your audience makes the performance all the better. Sugar Sammy then brings out the first act of the night: Pete Correale. Correale does a great job with his comedy regarding situations that makes the audience go "That's so true!" Not wanting to give away any of his work I won't quote his skit but just know that his comedy easily shows that even the simplest situations have the possibility for laughter if you have the right mindset.

GodfreyNext up was 2009 Montreal Festival knockout Godfrey and it's clear to see why he is a fan favourite. With his humour about his childhood, women and beds it's understandable why members of the audience, including myself, were nearly in tears from laughter. Third on the list was Last Comic Standing winner Alonzo Bodden. Taking cracks at America and the South, Alonzo is able to crack up his Canadian audience with ease. His humorous takes on "swine flu" and other illness that scared people not only put the situation into perspective but bring on the laughter.

Last on the list is, one of my personal favourites, Danny Bhoy. Hailing from Scotland Danny Bhoy broken box office records worldwide and is one of top international comedians. Danny comes out with a solid performance and regales us with his stories of his time spent in American and his tough time with the ladies. Drawing upon the audience and making them a part of his skit he proves why he is one of the best comedians taking over the international box offices.

Having watched comedians during the Montreal Comedy Festival on the television I was ecstatic that Just for Laughs was not only coming to Calgary, but coming with some of the best comedians. It was easily one of the best shows I've attended and each comedian did a great job in making the audience roll with laughter. It's no wonder why Just for Laughs is an amazing comedy festival and it's clear that every person went home with a better mindset and sore abs from laughter.
