During a recent trip to York, uncovering some of the highlights the city has to offer, I was pleased to enjoy the ambience and dining experience of the Dean Court Hotel Restaurant.
The Best Western hotel is located directly across from the York Minster and the dining room has a particularly good view of the elegant front entrance of the enormous cathedral.
The restaurant is recently renovated and looks as stylized, with contemporary decor, as any restaurant in Yorkville (TO) or Manhattan (NY). As the breakfast room transforms into a dining room whilst the sun sets outside on the Minster, the restaurant became an alcove of serenity, beauty and palette pleasing dishes.

A Proper Tea is much nicer than a Very Nearly Tea, which is one you forget about afterwards. ~A.A. Milne
The author of Winnie The Pooh makes a profound statement in this sentiment. I can quite honestly call myself an authority on afternoon teas as I have been taking in this English tradition at some of the most well-known and loudly tooted places. I have discovered that Very Nearly Teas come across ones path regularly and Proper Teas come into ones life on the rarest of occasions. So with that in mind, my five star rating of a Proper Tea at the Cavendish Rooms in Chatsworth is a well-earned distinction.

Walking into Cactus Club is an experience in itself. Chef Rob Feenie's deep grey stone flooring and dark wood is used in an architectural, gallery-type feel which floats through the entire restaurant and lounge giving a seeming never-ending luxury and greatness of space. Combine that with the stunning white modern chandeliers, sultry mood-lighting and the enticing aromas of great food on the grill, there is an unmistakable downtown-Vancouver meets Edmonton vibe.

The savoury aromas and flavours of Taloola make a delicious assault on your senses the moment you walk in the curiously decorated front foyer. There are many nooks and crannies to explore in this eclectic, incredibly unique, almost bohemian café. The clientele are just as vibrant as the walls and furniture too; the café is frequented by artists, musicians and everyone else that enjoys a slice of alternative pie.

When you walk through the front entrance of Big Tony’s, you feel an immediate sense of ease in anticipation of the comforting meal you are about to indulge in. If you’re going to Big Tony’s, be prepared to eat lots and to eat well.
A great meal at this established restaurant located just minutes from the Windsor train station starts off with a garden salad that is nothing less than gourmet in its full offerings of fresh ingredients. The crisp, chilled lettuce is topped with double-sized capers, sprigs of garden fresh basil, ripe cherry tomatoes, feta that is fresh and firm, and then finishes off with slices of eggplant and artichoke so flavourful you would think Big Tony hand picked them himself.
