From the “I'm glad to be wrong” department.

When it was reported that HBO had optioned the Winnipeg documentary Indie Game: The Movie, word was that it would be transformed into some sort of ongoing comedy series. That had some of us (well, me, at least) worrying that what looks to be an insightful and informative look at people pushing the boundaries of what's possible in independent game development would turn into a sort of Big Bang Theory for the gamer set, all easy punchlines and stereotypical “geek” characterizations.

Thankfully, that isn't the case. Though it doesn't say exactly what the series will be, Gamespot has an interview with the film's directors that assures that HBO's offering is “not a comedy.” The directors themselves stress that producer Scott Rudin has been behind “lots of films that we love, like The Social NetworkMoneyballThere Will Be Blood, and lots of Wes Anderson films.” If that's the aesthetic they're aiming for, well, that could actually be pretty awesome.
