DECADE OF POP – Brit, P!nk Xtina…what have the girls done for music lately? Print E-mail
Tuesday, 26 May 2009 20:10

No one can deny that the majority of the late nineties and nearly the entire zero’s have been musically dominated by female artists. Nearly a decade after artists such as P!nk, Christina Aguilera, and Britney Spears emerged onto the music scene, they are still holding strong places on music charts and continue to create music the world craves. After all this time, we who grew up with the aforementioned artists have the opportunity of looking back on their careers and seeing just how much these artists have grown and just how hard they had to fall to get to where they are right now.

Born Alecia Beth Moore, P!nk effortlessly eased her way into the rankings of top-producing artists of the century. Sometimes blonde, sometimes dreadlocked, but eternally changing, P!nk has taken the term reinvention and manifested it in countless ways. Nobody knew just how determined this rebel from Pennsylvania was to triumph over her most perilous critics. Add a comment

Possibly one of the coolest Canadian bands to hit an international music scene, Finger Eleven recently had a resounding hit with ‘Paralyzer.' The band just performed at the Calgary Stampede last week on the Coca Cola stage, which gives patrons of the Stampede free concerts with admission to the grounds. Finger Eleven has shown time and time again that they appreciate their fan base and band member Rich Beddoe took the time to talk with me about the fans, the music, and stolen modes of transportation... Eric Solomon is an up and coming artist who released his first album “My Reality” on May 9th, 2008 through Universal. His music (an infusion of soul rock and funky pop) deals with a range of subject matter (from lust and stalking to the hypocrisy of people), and explores the many corners of genre. Growing up in the Congo, Africa, Eric also infuses his personal experiences into his music. I got in touch with Eric in Vancouver, B.C., Canada and asked him his thoughts about his music, the record industry, the musical community in Vancouver and much more.

A Concert Interview with Matt Mays and El Torpedo Print E-mail

On tour for their most recent album “Terminal Romance”, Matt Mays and El Torpedo played like a band there for the music, not for the money. They clearly loved every moment of the show, egging on the crowd to clap along. And the vibe of the crowd was amplified through their own personal microphone facing opposite the stage.

Matt Mays played a few songs solo joined only by the guitar in his hand and the harmonica strategically placed in his mouth with a metal contraption. His voice was impeccable as this is a band that sounds even better live than on their album. While the solo songs had more of a tranquil theme to them, the rest of the evening was spent rocking out.
