Achin in Yer Bones is the newest album from Manitoba songwriter Romi Mayes. Her previous album, Sweet Somethin’ SteadyAchin in Yer Bones is an album full of more down home, prairie blues - a little bit Dixie Chicks, a little bit Patty Griffin with a Canadian twist. (2006) won a Western Canadian Music Award for Songwriter of the Year in 2006 .
‘If the Lord Don’t Love You’ is a dirty driving blues tune, while ‘Just Like the Rest’ is a slower country ballad that shows off Mayes’ storytelling prowess. Mayes wears her heart on her sleeve in ‘Hard Road’ - a quiet, heartfelt acoustic number about leaving loved ones behind. Fans of country and blues music will really love this album. Romi Mayes has the ability to be soft and sweet or downright dirty - backing it up with great songwriting and kick-ass guitar playing.
A veteran of the Canadian music scene, Mayes has shared the stage with the likes of Ricky Skaggs, Jim Cuddy, Fred Eaglesmith and Corb Lund. She is currently playing her way through a European CD release tour, but will return to Canada for shows in May and June.
