This online web doc  takes users inside the gripping reality of living in North Korea today, and allows them to experience first-hand the brave attempts of those attempting to escape.

The online experience is being launched as a complement for the upcoming film *THE DEFECTOR: ESCAPE FROM NORTH KOREA*, and is based on the true stories of six North Korean defectors. Their stories intertwine to create a gripping virtual journey where the user controls the fate of a defector desperately attempting to escape the country. The point-of-view journey begins in a hostile North Korea, and continues through China and South-East Asia, where decision-making points and panoramic 360° hotspot locations allow users to access video content, insider information and additional images. The environment is virtual, but the stakes are high.

ABOUT THE DEFECTOR: ESCAPE FROM NORTH KOREA*

THE DEFECTOR: ESCAPE FROM NORTH KOREA* is a feature-length documentary film by Director/Producer Ann Shin. The film follows the perilous journey of two North Koreans, Sook-Ja and Yong-hee, who escape North Korea and meet a broker named Dragon who promises to guide them to their freedom. Their journey is a dangerous 3,000 mile expedition across Asia, fraught with risk; for if Yong-hee and Sook-ja are caught, they will be deported back to North Korea and sentenced to prison, or worse… execution.

*THE DEFECTOR* made its World Premiere at the 2012 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), and will next be shown at the 2013 SXSW Interactive Festival, 2013 Sebastopol Documentary Festival, 2013 Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival and the 2013 Documentary Edge Festival.  The film will also be hitting various other major North American film festivals before having its broadcast premiere on TVO in Spring 2013.
