Ask yourself how much money it costs to purchase all your household cleaning products for a year - from all purpose cleaner to window cleaner, to disinfecting wipe, laundry detergents and dishwasher detergent - and you might be surprised at your answer.

Being cost effective takes a little logic and companies that deal with environmentally sound products rely on the fact that a socially conscious person will be imbued with logic. Quite often a healthier lifestyle does go hand in hand with green initiatives; after all if you love your body as an organism, you will find the same merit in the earths’ worth. So when you take a look at the purchase cost for the Get Clean Starter Kit from Shaklee, don’t be dissuaded; not only will it be cheaper in the long run, but it will last longer than regular household products and will keep 108 pounds of packaging waste out of landfills.

Initially the Shaklee kit seems relatively small, but virtually all the products are concentrate or will use a substantially smaller amount than your usual brand. Shaklee is very proactively green and works hard to ensure the products are cost effective, clean better than other products, and are easy on the environment. (Using the dryer sheets alone and knowing they were recyclable was a delightful feeling!) The products come in regular scent and no-scent, being weary of people with allergies to cleaning products. I never did have allergies to the smell of cleaning products until the last few years and have been very active in removing pungent smells from my cleaning products. I was amply impressed when the regular scented Shaklee cleaning products were so mild on the senses that I felt no effects at all. If you are severely affected by cleaning products smells, then I recommend the no-scent.

Shaklee’s mandate is: “we believe that the small act of scouring the sink can be part of the giant act of changing the world.” All too often people can feel truly overwhelmed by the alarming statistics on how the earth is in demise, and it can seem like too large a task for many citizens. However, simple things like composting, using a clothesline, and limiting yourself to a certain amount of shower time can bring a huge impact to the environment if we all work towards the same goal. Shaklee has the right idea as they believe we may be individual drops of water, but when combined, we can be a tidal wave for change. By changing your cleaning products to concentrated products such as the Get Clean Starter Kit you can eliminate 248 pounds of greenhouse gases.

Often, consumers will wonder if the products are equal to their own at home, and I can quite honestly say the Shaklee ones are far superior to the regular cleaning products I have used endlessly for years. The first thing I did when getting my Shaklee Get Clean Starter Kit was to clean the house from top to bottom, put the dishwasher on and throw a full load of laundry in. Every item of the Get Clean Starter Kit seemed to outshine the previous one. With the kit you receive three empty, reusable bottles to put a few drops of concentrate in and make an all-purpose cleaner or window cleaner. A cloth comes with the kit for cleaning windows and, paired with the spray, it made all of my windows crystal clear.

All of the scented products are very, very light and where other companies tell you the pungent aromas in their products smell like spring, they don’t really, but the Shaklee products do. You will leave each room seeing that it shines and that it smells like line-dried sheets. Speaking of which, the laundry concentrate, soft fabric concentrate and dryer sheets are very effective, but one of the kit's greatest products is the Nature Bright Laundry Booster and Stain Remover – which whitens, brightens and makes all of your clothes more vibrant. Another outstanding product is the Scour-Off Heavy Duty Paste, which is a scrubbing product you can use in the kitchen or bathroom, but it actually works! It isn’t a rough drying product but a very soft product on your sinks and bathtubs that ends up by giving everything a halo of brilliancy.

At one point I recently cut my finger and had to get five stitches. Each day the finger needed gentle cleaning and the Hand Wash concentrate was the only product I knew I could use that would clean the wound efficiently and not irritate it.

In fact, I am so impressed by the Shaklee Get Clean Starter Kit that I have become one of those annoying people who tells all their friends about the products like I am working at the shopping channel. If you are unlucky enough to be in my house while I am telling you about the products, you will also receive a demonstration on how well the products work. All the details seem well tended to with this kit; not only are the cleaning products exceptional, but the cleaning cloths, window cloth, dish sponge, pad and caddy are well thought out to exceed the expectations of the customer. After looking for a “decent” caddy all my cleaning life, I am thrilled to have such a sturdy and well organized caddy that fits all my products in easily.

Items not in the kit are rendered down to just two that I have managed to think of – a toilet cleaner (although I still suspect a solution can be done with the products in the kit) and polish for wood surfaces. Considering you can purchase virtually your entire cleaning supply at once, that will last anywhere up to six months to one year is amazing. Based on my calculations, most of the products will last me a year in my own home, but may differ in yours. When being Eco-Awesome is this pleasant an experience I wonder why more people haven't tried to venture away from their traditional products!

My mother has been a Shaklee distributor for over 10 years and she swears by the Get Clean Starter Kit! I've used some of the products and they're superb, as are Shaklee's vitamins. But don't just take mine or my Mom's word for it...Oprah featured this product on her show so you KNOW it's awesome!
