Michael Cera is Nick Twisp, a dorky virgin who is desperate for a girlfriend. But he is also Francois Dillinger, a mustached rebel who wears aviators and doesn’t care what anybody thinks. When his mom’s boyfriend (Zach Galifianakis) decides to take them on a summer vacation, he meets Sheeni Saunders (Portia Doubleday) and Nick's life becomes dangerous and exciting.

Motivated to make Sheeni his girlfriend and to stop her from becoming the girlfriend of the preppy boy Trent, who is also vying for her heart, Nick finds himself driving a trailer into a diner and setting it on fire, traveling to Sheeni’s boarding school and getting her expelled, and when things get really desperate, dressing up as a girl to get into her house. Nick is on the run from the police and trying to win Sheeni’s love and he has no idea what he’s doing. He is also trying to take care of their “love child” (Sheeni’s dog Albert).

Justin Long plays Sheeni’s pot smoking brother and adds another layer of complication to Nick’s life. He also manages to get them all high on mushrooms which makes for a very entertaining scene. All the actors in this film contribute very strong performances, and while this is not my favourite Michael Cera film, it is still good for a few laughs.

There are some great deleted scenes on this DVD. One that is quite funny is Sheeni insisting that Nick buy the best consumer rated condoms and showing her the article proving that they are. Another hilarious one is Nick fighting over Albert with his equally geeky friend. Seeing them fight is like seeing two wrestlers try to do ballet – it is just awkward. One scene that I really thought should have been left in is a phone call between Nick and Trent. The call starts out with Nick talking to Trent, but then his alter ego Francois takes over and Trent has this great line: “So now I meet the real Nick Twisp.”

The special features also include audition footage which is quite interesting to see. In most cases the performance in the audition are very close to those in the film. If you’re looking for some light hearted, silly fun, then I recommend watching this DVD and finding your own inner alter ego.
