Lend me your imagination for a moment. If a dire situation presented itself and only one person knew the vital information required to alleviate the situation, by what means would you obtain that information? If your mind starts wandering into dark territory, you might think absolutely not would a situation like this even develop anyway. It is unmentionable, even unthinkable.

Gregor Jordan’s Unthinkable turns to this dark territory for its plot premise as the film explores how far people would go to protect their country. A threat is made by American born citizen Steven Arthur Younger (Michael Sheen), who was a nuclear expert for the US Army but has since turned into a terrorist. He has planted three nuclear bombs in three different American cities and if his demands are not met the bombs will explode. Younger was willingly captured by authorities who have been holding him in an abandoned school.

To extract the information on the location of the bombs, an Interrogator Specialist named Henry Herald ‘H’ Humphries (Samuel L. Jackson) is brought into work alongside FBI Agent Helen Brody (Carrie-Anne Moss) and her team comprised of Agent Vincent (Gil Bellows), and Agent Jackson (Brandon Routh). ‘H’s’ methods of interrogation are extreme and brutal as witnessed first hand by Agent Brody but are nothing new to ‘H’s’ other colleagues as they’ve ssen his methods before and know the result.

Unthinkable brings to the forefront the difference between right and wrong and whether there is such a definable difference between the two anymore. ‘H’ is called evil because of the torturous methods he uses, yet what does that make Younger who is a man willing to sacrifice millions of innocent lives. At first when ‘H’ begins his “interrogation” there is no qualm or mercy to the lengths he will go to. For him it is what he does best, it is his job. However, no matter how tough a person trains themselves to be, they are still affected when their profession begins to take a mental toll, because eventually it becomes difficult and exhausting.

We would like to believe that as human beings we would treat each other with respect and humanity. That all we need to do is to sit down and talk out the situation to find a solution. Yet the reality of this is far from true. Whether we choose to believe or not there are those living in our society who put into motion the unmentionable and the unthinkable.

The special features included on the DVD are an Alternate Ending and an Engaging Commentary with Director Gregor Jordan.
