The Black Keys w/ Cage the Elephant

Deer Lake Park, Burnaby

June 27, 2011

The first concert of The Black Keys Canadian tour saw 9,000 fans fill the fields of Deer Lake Park in Burnaby, with tickets having sold out in mere minutes.  The ominous clouds that plagued the ever-waiting summer skies didn’t hinder the all-ages crowd and the band made it completely worth the trek playing a thunderous hit-filled setlist while the clouds didn’t rain on our parade. If the story isn’t old enough already, Beady Eye is Oasis, minus leader and chief songwriter, Noel Gallagher, and it’s been almost three years since the Beady Eye members were last seen around these parts. To be exact, it was September 7, 2008 at the Virgin Festival in Toronto when a crazed fan somehow snuck backstage and interrupted Oasis’ set by blindsiding Noel Gallagher mid-song turning him into a human bowling pin right on stage. The Bread and Circus venue doesn’t always use its small space to create the aura of intimacy accomplished on Thursday Night as a part of the North by Northeast (NXNE) festival in Toronto. Nor does it always get to put its piano to such good use. Credit goes to the NXNE organizers for putting together a night of complimentary music that avoided sounding repetitive. Add a comment
