Marvel: "It's Coming!" Print E-mail

ITS_COMINGsmall... Whatever it is.

Marvel Comics' publicity team sent out this image today with the simple and cryptic tagline, "IT'S COMING!" (The caps are theirs.) But what is "IT" that's "COMING"?

The image itself looks a bit suspiciously like The Phoenix Force, wouldn't you say? It's been implied that Hope Summers has access to the Phoenix Force, but could this reference a return of the original Phoenix Jean Grey, who's been dead for going on eight years since New X-Men #150. It's by far the longest stretch of non-aliveness that the character's ever had through her multiple deaths over the years, so perhaps Marvel's feeling it's time for a comeback. It's worth noting that the last comment about the current status of Jean was at the 2010 San Diego Comic Con when editor Nick Lowe said simply, "She's dead."

Also interesting is that Marvel's editors have been saying at cons lately that fans should be keeping an eye on the series Fear Itself, X-Men: Schism and The Avengers: The Children's Crusade to get clues on the the next big event happening in the Marvel Universe. So does this play into that?

Finally, note the Who's Who list of Marvel creative talent at the bottom: Writers Brian Michael Bendis, Jason Aaron, Matt Fraction, Jonathan Hickman, and Ed Brubaker, and artists John Romita Jr, Olivier Coipel and Adam Kubert. What could possibly bring this all-star team together?

Start your speculating comic fans!
