CIFF 2011 Reveals People's Choice & Short Film Awards Print E-mail

“We’re still going through the process of reviewing our results but it’s safe to say we’ve achieved just over a 10 per cent increase in attendance and are tracking to have had one of our best years yet for ticket sales," said Jacqueline Dupuis, executive director of teh Calgary International Film Festival. "We’re grateful to both our loyal, and new fans who came out in full force to enjoy a fantastic program of films as well as for our stakeholders and sponsors who joined us to throw a world-class international film festival right here in our city. This year’s strong results will contribute to CIFF's long-term sustainability and its ability to meaningfully contribute to the cultural landscape of our diverse and dynamic community."

Feature films are incredibly difficult to manifest into cohesive tokens of culture. The weather of Calgary International Film Festival was pleasant this year with only a few days of clouds driving festival-goers into the Plaza Theatre. Director/Producer/Writer Andrew Simpson of the Alberta-produced documentary, Wolves Unleashed, gives a guest lecture on the final weekend of the festival regarding animal wrangling for film production in adverse weather conditions.

CIFF 2011: TAKE THIS WALTZ Closing Gala Print E-mail

Press+1 was there at the 12th CIFF closing night red carpet screening and gala of Take This Waltz. Press+1 reporters Travis Gaetz and Ben Tsui were on hand to cover the festival closing ceremony. Take This Waltz premiered to rave reviews at TIFF a few weeks ago. Attending other festivals like CIFF with Sarah Polley’s latest film is a great way to promote the film prior to its theatrical release.
