NICOLAS CAGE HONOURED WITH UNITED NATIONS AWARD

On Friday, the UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon bestowed the Global Citizen of the Year Award to Nicolas Cage in New York. In addition, the movie star was assigned a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime. As an ambassador for Amnesty International, Nicolas Cage has donated two million dollars to aid former child soldiers, and has also launched awareness through his film “Lord of War” about international arms control. The actor explained how he would like “to shine a spotlight on the need for global justice.”

MILEY CYRUS SPORTS NEW TATTOO

The seventeen-year-old starlet was photographed on Thursday in Miami. Wearing a bikini at a poolside, with the words “Just Breathe” in permanent ink on her upper rib cage. Apparently, Cyrus has wanted a tattoo since the age of fifteen. Her half brother Trace Cyrus, who is lead singer of Metro Station, stated he would like to one day have matching tattoos with his siblings last week: “I already have a matching one with my dad, there's no reason I wouldn't do it with my siblings. Someone you're that close to, it's something that means something to you obviously, so why wouldn't you do it?” Miley Cyrus has not commented on the circulating pictures. However, given her recent actions, the teen star has a desire to shed her Disney image.

ACTRESS AMY ADAMS IS PREGNANT

Amy Adams and fiancé Darren Legallo have a baby on the way. The couple met during an acting class in 2001, and have been engaged for over a year. The 35-year-old actress has been previously nominated for an Oscar twice for supporting roles in “Doubt” and “Junebug.” She is most notable for her performance in “Enchanted” and will star in an upcoming romantic comedy called “Leap Year” in January.

ROLLING STONE'S RONNIE WOOD ARRESTED

Guitarist and bassist of the Rolling Stones,Ronnie Wood, was arrested on Wednesday for an alleged domestic assault against his twenty-one year old Russian girlfriend, Ekaterina Ivanova. He was released on bail, with no charges filed against him. Supposedly, the 62-year-old rocker was intoxicated, and will face further questioning in January. The incident happened on Claygate High Street, located south of London. Ronnie and Ekaterina have been dating since last year, causing the separation of Ronnie and his then-wife Jo Wood. The twenty-four year marriage ended with a divorce early last month.

Sting versus Simon Cowell

Sting was recently asked to comment on his opinions of “The X Factor,” the British version of American idol, produced and judged by Simon Cowell. Sting first mentioned that the show was “appalling”, and then exclaimed, “It's a preposterous show, and you have judges who have no recognizable talent apart from self-promotion.” The singer then continued by adding, “Basically I was looking at televised karaoke where they conform to stereotypes. It is a soap opera which has nothing to do with music."

Upon hearing this, Simon Cowell declared his thoughts: “Talking about these contestants being a bunch of karaoke no-hopers … I thought it was pompous." Later, Cowell proceeded to invite Sting on the show, and mockingly said, "Someone has got a little bit grumpy. We'd like a Sting week." Do you also think American Idol type shows are a joke? Or is Sting being too harsh?

Julianne Hough and Jared Followill

After breaking up with country singer Chuck Wicks, Julian Hough seems to have found a new love interest. Jared Followill, bassist and pianist for Kings of Leon, has been seen on two occasions getting cozy with the dancer at a lounge and restaurant in Nashville. A representative for the Kings of Leon has stated that the two “are just friends.” Couple or not? Yay or nay?
