This is a book all about musicians who love their guitars. It is an ode to the “six string journey of discovery” that musicians are forever pursuing, and it shows that the guitar is often “a faithful friend that is always there to turn to.” As Zai writes in his foreword, the guitar is so magical an instrument because it can be played so many ways, is used in so many genres of music, and “no other instrument captures the vibrational microcosm of the creation like the guitar.”

Neil Zlozower is a legendary photographer who has been snapping shots of musicians for forty years. Affectionately known as “The Zloz,” he is a brutally honest character who has no patience for fame – as Zai describes, “He doesn’t care who you are or how famous you are; if you’re talking to him, you’d better be prepared to hear the Zloz truth.” This ability to get past the fame to the real person beneath led to some of the best rock photos ever taken.

The book opens with a collection of Jimmy Page photos, including one where he is using a bow to play his guitar. The photos range from the 1960s to today and feature great guitarists such as Slash, Eric Clapton, Joe Satriani, Les Paul, Edward Van Halen, Keith Richards, and Carlos Santana. Accompanying the photos are unpublished quotes from interviews done with the musicians by music journalist Steven Rosen.

With insight into the lifestyles and thoughts of these great guitar heroes, the photos and quotes in this book will leave you with a new appreciation for the guitar and the people who devote their life to making music.
