VANCOUVER, B.C..... At the closing night of the 2011 Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival season, Artistic Director Christopher Gaze announced that this summer’s overall attendance at the Festival was 84,000, an increase of 5,000 over total Bard attendance in 2010. Bumbershoot 2011: A Marathon for Arts Lovers
Written by: Tessa Perkins
With so many different things to see and do, Bumbershoot is an exercise in meticulous planning, careful preparation, and focused execution. If you don’t have your day carefully planned out, there is a serious risk that you’ll spend your time running around and trying to figure out what you should see next than actually seeing anything at all. It is quite frustrating in a way because there were multiple things happening at once that all seemed equally worthy of my time, but I was forced to choose only one. It has always seemed to me that Bumbershoot has about five festivals worth of programming jammed into three days (this year from Sep 3-5). From music, to film, to dance, to theatre, to comedy, and even visual art and spectacle, this festival really covers all areas of the arts to showcase the best that Seattle has to offer while also featuring many other artists.
